First Church Infant & Toddler Nurseries

The First Christian Reformed Church nursery ministry provides safe and comfortable care for infants and toddlers so parents can attend the worship services. Nurseries are available during Sunday morning worship, for special services and holidays, and evening song services.

There Are Two Nurseries at First Church

Infant Nursery is for newborns to new walkers. Parents are also welcome to take their babies into the sanctuary, or to the prayer room (whether for nursing purposes or for a more private space with the baby).

Toddler Nursery is for children once they are steady on their feet. The transition from infant to toddler nursery is at the discretion of the parents. Children are welcome in toddler nursery until they are old enough for the next ministry program, Little Lambs, which is geared for those who are around 2 1/2 to 4 years old.

Staffing

The nursery is staffed by parents who use the nursery and by many volunteers from the congregation, both adults and youths. For the morning services there is also a nursery supervisor.

Dropping Off Children at Nursery

A nursery supervisor or other adult attendant helps sign in children, assigns a projection number, stows the child’s belongings, and makes sure their belongings have proper identification.

Some children cry when their parents leave, and others cry intermittently throughout the service. It is part of the nursery ministry to cuddle and console these little ones. If inconsolable, ill or injured, parents will be contacted via the projection system or personally by one of the attendants.

Registration and Identification

Parents are asked to fill out the sign-in sheet. The sign-in sheets inform the nursery staff of each child’s needs and provide a pager or projection number for each child. If a child attends nursery regularly, his or her name will appear on the sign-in sheet and there are pre-made name tags. Visitors may fill in their child’s name and information in an open slot, and will be given visitor tags.

Snacks and Drinks

Toddlers may be given a nursery-provided snack unless restricted per the sign-in sheet. Infants are only given parent-provided snacks. Drinks are not provided. Parents may bring a drink for their child in a clearly labeled spill-proof bottle or cup.

Toys and Cleaning

Children explore with their mouths and hands, so toys are disinfected either during or after each service. Disposable changing pads are used over cloth changing pad covers. The latter are laundered as necessary along with any other linens, soft toys, and various covers.

It is our prayer that the Nursery ministry will allow parents the opportunity to worship without worrying about their little ones. If you have any questions, please contact the church office by email or phone (452-4370). If you have any questions about the scheduling of volunteers, please contact the church office.
